Trusting relationships can provide a greater sense of security—it stands out. Interestingly, this is also true when relationships are not very reciprocal. Although we are often limited in our relationships, God has promised to take care of all our needs, big and small. It is no wonder, then, that one study found that believing in God was associated with greater life satisfaction. In addition, people were more satisfied with their community, work, and marriage.
Trust in God as a source of well-being
A study conducted at the University of California (UCLA) found that people who see God as their helper—either as a force or as a person who helps solve problems—are happier in their marriages and in their health. These studies support the biblical truth that a positive and loving view of God has healing powers. Activities such as going to church, praying, studying the Bible, and praising God increase our ability to trust God—God changes our lives for the better through them.
The impact of the image of God on health
Our understanding of God is very important. It is easy to understand the researchers’ observations that belief in a loving God has a positive effect; a belief that emphasizes obedience to a punishing God has a negative effect. This study shows that the way we perceive God affects our health. A positive image of God and a religious life that includes forgiveness promote health.
God's presence in comfort and hardship
In this world, we are surrounded by challenges. Sometimes they are small, sometimes they are big, and they can seem insurmountable. Experiencing the transforming power of a loving and trusting God can have a profound and positive impact on us, no matter what we are dealing with today or tomorrow. God has expressed His willingness to be with us. When we are hurting, He feels our pain. He wants us to entrust our difficult situations to Him, to look to Him, and to grasp His strong hand. He wants us to rest in His loving arms. He gives us strength, courage, and peace.
